Tommy’s National Early Miscarriage Research Centre

Following my post in November about Tommy’s #misCOURAGE campaign, I’m very pleased to tell you today about the research centre they are opening on 4th April.

It will be the first UK research centre dedicated to early miscarriage

Miscarriage is by far the biggest cause of pregnancy loss in the UK, and it’s also the least understood. 85 percent of miscarriages happen in the first 12 weeks, and are known as early miscarriages. Parents often receive no answers when it happens, and current health guidelines mean they need to endure three early miscarriages before there is any investigation. Having suffered a miscarriage myself, I am all too aware of the devastating impact it has, and how the lack of answers can torment you, so finding out about this new centre is welcome news.

The following infographics give a visual overview of just some of the statistics surrounding miscarriage in the UK:

As bittersweet as it is for me, I do hope this research centre provides answers into this heartbreaking situation.
