Sunday 29th December – My first practice run

So as you may have read, I have signed up to do the Bupa Great Manchester 10K Run next May 2014. I am doing it as part of the Manchester PA Network Team to raise money for The Christie
I am also doing it as running is something totally alien to me, so yet again puts me well and truly out of my comfort zone!

As I have never run before, I know I need to do a lot of practice before the proper event, so I did my first run/walk today. I downloaded an app that helps you go from total beginner (AKA me) to someone who can run 10K, hopefully! So the first attempt was a 5 minute walk to warm up then 20 minutes alternating between a 60 second run and 90 second walk, finishing with a 5 minute walk to cool down. It actually wasn’t that bad! I mean it was total beginners stuff, but I was pretty pleased with myself for not giving up halfway through.

I have just under 5 months to train for the run so wish me luck!! I’ll let you know how the training goes!
