Friday 30th August – Flashback Friday!

So I thought today would be a good time to go back over how much I’ve achieved in the last 8 weeks, especially as I never thought I’d stick with it this long. 

If this is the first time you’ve read my blog and you’re thinking about starting a new fitness regime, but aren’t sure if it’s for you or what to expect, then this might help. 

8 weeks ago Chris offered to train me and help me with nutrition and supplementary advice and I was terrified! I explained all of my insecurities to Chris and this is what he said: ‘With my help, failing simply doesn’t happen Clare’. I will help you regardless of anything…Take it out of your head that this isn’t going to work, this Clare, is where it ALL CHANGES’ 
At the time I couldn’t get my head around how positive he was, and to be honest I’m still getting used to it, but he has been brilliant since Day 1. 

7 weeks ago I paid my first visit to the gym to meet Chris and I was so scared! I really didn’t need to be though as he is so easy to talk to, always has been. I found the gym a little bit intimidating back then, but only because it was new to me. Having someone to show you around is a big help though, and now I like going there. If I can be like that in such a short space of time, then you will be just fine! 

6 weeks ago I had my first measurements done. I was dreading this but Chris  was a complete professional and talked me through the whole process. It only took 5 minutes and was nowhere near as bad as I made it out to be in my head. I promise! 

5 weeks ago I was worrying about my first proper gym session to the point of not wanting to go. But like everything else so far in this process, Chris looked after me and made it so much less terrifying than I thought. It wasn’t actually a gym session. We set goals for me to work towards, which was actually hard but definitely worth doing. 

 4 weeks ago I had my first workout at the gym. Chris was extremely patient and talked me through everything. He explained what all the equipment was for and then put me through my paces, but in a manageable way. I did a second session this week, which was hard work, but enjoyable. I would never have thought that in such a short space of time I would like working out, but I’m getting there! 

3 weeks ago I had my first proper ‘downer’ since starting this experience, and it was horrible. I used to suffer a lot with very low moods but this caught me off guard and really upset me. 

2 weeks ago Chris decided to up the intensity in my gym sessions! He also set me a home circuit for me to do at home. There’s no way when I started this I would have thought about training at home as well as at the gym. It’s only with Chris’s support and encouragement that I’ve got to this point. I also had my second set of measurements done and found out I’d lost 8 inches. That was such an incentive to keep going. 

Last week I had another bit of a downer, but this time I realised that I had to ask for some help with how I was feeling. As always Chris was fantastic. He was full of encouragement and straightforward advice. I couldn’t have gotten this far without him. He has been an absolute rock and has managed to make me look forward to exercise! He is also managing to improve my confidence (slowly) and self belief. 

If you’re reading this at the start of your own new experience of training and/or healthy eating, then I hope this helps you to see that it’s all achievable. Having support is an absolute must as far as I’m concerned, but most importantly you have to believe in yourself!
